Housepoints

Black Country Federation – Housepoints

At the Black Country Federation, we are proud to nurture aspiration, community spirit, and a culture of excellence across all our learners. Our house point system is a cornerstone of this commitment, designed to inspire positive behaviour, teamwork, and ambition in every child. It reflects our shared ASPIRE values—Aspiration, Success, Perseverance, Independence, Respect, and Excellence—and helps prepare our learners for future success both academically and personally.

Our Houses: Inspiring Aspiration Through Identity

Every learner within the Black Country Federation belongs to one of four vibrant houses, each named after a prestigious UK university and paired with an inspiring animal mascot. These houses are:

  • Cambridge Tigers
  • Oxford Magpies
  • Warwick Alligators
  • Loughborough Eagles

These carefully chosen names and mascots connect pupils to a legacy of academic excellence and ambition. By belonging to a house linked with world-renowned universities, children are reminded daily of the possibilities that education unlocks and encouraged to set high aspirations for themselves.

How the House Point System Works

Our house point system goes beyond traditional point collection. Pupils earn bonds by demonstrating behaviours aligned with our ASPIRE values, such as perseverance, respect, and excellence. These bonds contribute to their house’s total, fostering a collective sense of pride and achievement.

The house system encourages pupils to:

  • Work collaboratively and support one another
  • Strive for both personal and group success
  • Develop resilience and independence

This approach supports our mission to empower every learner with the character and knowledge to thrive academically, socially, and personally.

Inter-Federation Competitions and Curriculum Integration

The house system extends across the entire Black Country Federation through inter-federation competitions. These events are closely linked to the curriculum, allowing pupils to apply their skills and values in various subjects and activities. The competitions promote healthy rivalry and collaboration, culminating in an exciting annual sports day where the winning house is crowned.

This continuous integration ensures the house system remains a motivating force throughout the school year, reinforcing our commitment to academic challenge, teamwork, and physical well-being.

Financial Literacy Through the School Bank

A unique feature of our house system is the school bank, where pupils can spend the bonds they earn. This initiative introduces essential financial concepts such as saving, budgeting, and responsible spending from an early age. Through managing their bonds, pupils develop:

  • Confidence in handling money
  • An understanding of value and rewards
  • Responsibility and decision-making skills

This practical experience aligns with our vision of preparing pupils for active participation in modern Britain, equipping them with life skills beyond the classroom.

Building Community and Shared Success

The house system cultivates an inclusive community where every child feels valued and motivated. It embodies our value of Respect by promoting kindness, empathy, and teamwork across diverse groups within our schools. Through friendly competitions and collective goals, pupils share the joy of success together, reflecting our values of Success and Excellence.

Summary

The Black Country Federation’s house point system is far more than a behaviour management tool—it is a vibrant expression of our ASPIRE values in action. By linking houses to prestigious universities and pairing them with inspiring mascots, we embed aspiration and ambition into everyday school life. The bond system and school bank nurture financial literacy and personal responsibility, while inter-federation competitions foster engagement, collaboration, and a strong sense of achievement.

Together, this system creates a supportive and ambitious community where every learner is inspired and empowered to reach their full potential, fulfilling our shared mission to transform life chances through education.

Oxford Magpies

Oxford is known worldwide for its academic excellence, curiosity, and tradition. The Magpie, clever and observant, reflects our hope that children in Oxford House will develop a love of learning, a sharp eye for detail, and a thirst for knowledge.

We encourage Oxford Magpies to earn house points by showing intellectual curiosity, thoughtful behaviour, and teamwork in both the classroom and on the sports field. Their pride in belonging to Oxford House helps build a culture of respectful ambition and academic resilience.

Warwick Alligators

Warwick represents innovation, bold thinking, and a modern approach to problem-solving. The Alligator, strong and strategic, inspires children to be confident, courageous, and resourceful.

Warwick Alligators are encouraged to take initiative, show leadership, and demonstrate perseverance. Whether in sports competitions or daily school life, they earn points by showing determination, respect, and a commitment to improvement. Their house pride fuels their drive to succeed and support others.

Loughborough Eagles

Loughborough is renowned for its sporting excellence and teamwork. The Eagle, powerful and focused, represents our aspiration for children to soar — physically, mentally, and socially.

Loughborough Eagles earn points through sportsmanship, collaboration, and positive behaviour. They take pride in representing their house with energy and fairness, and they understand that true strength lies in lifting others up. Their house identity helps them aim high and stay grounded in kindness.

Cambridge Tigers

Cambridge stands for deep thinking, creativity, and global impact. The Tiger, bold and determined, reflects our hope that children in Cambridge House will be imaginative, resilient, and brave in their learning journey.

Cambridge Tigers earn points by showing independence, empathy, and excellence in all areas of school life. Their house pride encourages them to be role models, to take risks in learning, and to show integrity in competition and conduct.
